We're celebrating VeDA's Balance Awareness Week!

What is Balance Awareness Week?

Now in its 23rd year, Balance Awareness Week is an annual awareness campaign to broaden the public’s understanding of balance-related vestibular disorders, such as Meniere’s disease and vestibular migraine, and symptoms ranging from dizziness and imbalance, to vertigo and tinnitus. While many of these conditions are incurable, faster and more accurate diagnosis, along with effective coping strategies, can greatly improve patients’ quality of life.

Navigating the US Healthcare System

with Migraine Shields Ambassador, Kayla McCain

Vestibular patients who are informed and prepared are more likely to find answers and get on the road to recovery. Understanding your condition, tracking your symptoms, finding the right healthcare provider, and preparing for your doctor’s visit are a few of the things we will cover during this session. We can help you and your family become better advocates for your healthcare.

Complementary & Alternative Medicine

with Migraine Shields Ambassador, Alicia wolf

Many people with chronic vestibular dysfunction have found that by making changes to their lifestyle and managing their overall wellness they are less likely to experience symptoms, and better able to cope when symptoms do arise. In this session we will present evidence about Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) treatment approaches – such as dietary changes, supplements, body manipulation and exercise - and explain when they are and are not recommended.

"It’s almost immediate relief..."

"It’s almost immediate relief..."

I have been using Migraine Shields for the past year to help with my light sensitivity and tired eyes while using the computer. The majority of my work for The Dizzy Cook requires long hours editing photos and writing posts, which can be hard on someone with vestibular migraine and visual symptoms. I appreciate that these lenses aren’t colorfully tinted that it makes it hard to edit my food photos, but offer just enough to give my eyes some relief. Sometimes I’ll forget to wear them and feel my eyes getting strained, which is a cue for me to put them on!
